CHEAP MONEY

I was shocked one day last month when the stock market dropped 506 points, there was a crisis of confidence in the government, including the President and Congress, and suddenly, out of the thin air, the PANYNJ (Port Authority of New York, New Jersey) announces it will increase the cost of crossing a bridge or tunnel!

Right when we are down, they stick it to us thinking: Hey, let’s bleed them to death, it should be fun, and then we can wonder why no one is using the PANYNJ anymore.

Dear PANYNJ:

You morons should understand something. The bridges and tunnels are a vital need for people to make a living. Most of these people and people in general, are in constant fear of losing their jobs, of not being able to feed their families. They can’t even save a dime to put away in case of an emergency! Maybe we are all at fault for that, but raising the fares will only help to crash everything down to the final stages.

Raising the fare to cross these bridges does not solve the real problems, that you as a board are incompetent, uncaring, and too stupid to figure it all out. The fact is that it took you a long time to realize that the infrastructure is crumbling, the bridges and tunnels need repairs. But wasn’t that your argument the last time you asked for a raise? What did you idiots do with that raise?

Have you examined some of the heady salaries that exists in management, on your so-called board, and the waste and outlay of material and money that goes on? Could you possibly look there? Maybe you want to figure out that who is running the darn thing can’t run his/her nose with a head cold?

How about some clear thinking, some initiative with problem solving, of taking the time to consider the people that use your structures because they have to, and may soon be unable to afford it, not that they can now.

Respectfully,
A fed up to here observer.

Many years ago, one looked at the fares and said: “I remember when it costs a nickel to buy a token, the best deal in the world!” Then they started to creep up the cost of the subway, where the saying now goes: “That and a buck twenty five gets you a ride on the subway.”

My feeling is that these “Boards” that hold control over our pockets, for public utilities should all come under public review. Who are these people and why do they qualify in deciding what we pay. If you ever dragged a school board or a committee with oversight before a public gathering, they all look like they need to know where the emergency exits are, to save their skins, they look like deer caught in the head lights of an oncoming locomotive.
