CHICKEN SOUP

-->
Ah, that old fashioned remedy that soothes the soul, and brings warmth to the heart, chicken soup!

Making chicken soup is easy and yet good chicken soup needs time to cook, it is one of life’s true wonders. Take a stormy rainy night, cold temperatures and a bowl of chicken soup, add some grated Parmesan cheese, tortellini and Italian bread with butter, pour a glass of red wine, a Merlot perhaps, or any dry red, and you have heaven!

Known as Jewish penicillin, chicken soup has warmed many a cold heart, saddened soul and even a mended a broken heart or two, always pleasing.

Mom had her own way of making chicken soup, and in the winter months while we were growing up, she made it every Monday night, freshly made from scratch. She would scratch her chin and say: “I think I’ll make some chicken soup today!” She would on occasion, alternate with beef soup, and during the Thanksgiving holidays, make soup with turkey leftovers.

The good thing about chicken soup is you can add pastina, tortellini or any small pasta to it. But what tasted best was the love that went into making God’s very own creation. In the old days, after soup, mom would put out a chop, or chicken cutlet and salad, and dinner was done, complete, so don’t complain. Then TLW (The Little Woman) started to make it, and it became a meal in itself as we aged.

Chicken soup is the link that connects my past to my present, and I can dream of the future, because of chicken soup. So tonight, if you will, try the best thing there is, make your own chicken soup, make it rich, make it hearty and make it good!

Why DID the chicken cross the road? He heard the words: ‘Chicken soup’!
