LUNCH FOR THREE

A pair of congressmen met for lunch to hash out their
political differences. Ten minutes into the meal, one angrily
pounds the table. "You're lying!" he shouts.
"Of course I'm lying," the other said, "but hear me out."

You can’t keep a good man down, even one who almost died twice in one week!

My good friend and fellow board member, Running Muskrat, a man who follows nature, knowing all the birds and fish on a first name basis recently had a brush with his state of mortality.

Not only does he have a double bypass, but then tests the limits of the good doctors and nurses at the hospital by almost dying on a piece of chicken! He wasn’t dying over the taste so much as trying to dislodge it from his throat! Fortunately the good nurses of St Francis saved his life.

In the by-laws of the Board of Directors is a small item in fly-type that states that if a member has a by-pass and chokes on chicken, you have to visit him. So I got in my car and started to drive to his home for a visit, just to see how pretty he thought the nurses were at St. Francis. As I was driving who do I see with a cardboard sign reading: “Ken’s Place” but another Board member, no other than Jim our president of the board.

That's Running Muskrat in the middle!
“Jim!” I said, “Where are you going?”
Jim holds up the sign for me to read and I catch on immediately, if not sooner. We decide we will have lunch with Running Muskrat as Jim wants to know how pretty the nurses are at the hospital.

Arriving at Running Muskrat’s place, a beautiful old teepee in the wilds of Amityville, Running Muskrat gives us a tour ($5 but does include a brochure) and announces we will visit either a Turkish prison or restaurant, since he felt like turkey today!

Ephesus Mediterranean Cuisine is the best kept secret in Massapequa Park, a little place but well appointed, the food was outstanding and priced very well, a great surprise handed to us by Running Muskrat, who knows his dining places.

We shared two appetizers: Eggplant salad-a roasted eggplant and red pepper concoction and a red pepper mixed with garlic, and my main course was Adana Kabob, recommended by Running Muskrat and although I was hesitant to try lamb because it sometimes taste gamey, it was so good I would highly recommend it to anyone!

All in all, Running Muskrat looked terrific, ready to run a few miles and play tennis like he does, but we will of course take a good man anyway we can find him, and he is a good man, but so is Jim, maybe I’m just lucky to know these guys!
