THE AMERICAN WAY

-->
I find it interesting that the Federal government can be so harsh and draconian on the ordinary citizen who pays his taxes, doing his duty as a citizen, when it comes to that citizen’s savings. The Feds tax it, make you report it, and will take it away from you if you wish to give it to your children: and when you suddenly need Medicaid, will give away the billions in benefits to illegal aliens who skirt the law and sneak into this country with out even paying taxes, or social security. Somehow, earning and saving is somehow punishable by law! God Bless America!

But that is the American way.

My issue is not with the illegal aliens, especially those with children who want a better life and want it desperately, my issue is with the Federal Government and how it discerns how to treat its citizens when it comes to money, their money.

Where is it written in the Constitution that taxation is a must?

Aren’t the governments that rule the various levels of our civilization supposed to be accountable to the citizens?

Is it not the responsibility to serve and protect the Constitution and the populace by those elected officials?

Is the government wielding too much power and making itself unwieldy?

Do we need taxation? Maybe, but we need freedom from tyranny first, then accountable governments that spend our hard earned dollars, and paternal protection with maternal care for the people.

If an old lady with few dollars saves them for her children, there should be some respect for the taxes already paid and the savings should be protected from more government intrusion.

This is a great country, in fact it is the greatest country in the world, as long as we the people are diligent and watch how our government is run. We need stronger laws to protect property, and we diligence in how we administer the laws of the land. And above all, we need to protect ourselves as a nation from wasteful spending and a cavalier attitude towards our hard earned money. We need above all, protection from Congress.

Well said , VERY well said. And in my opinion, (for what's its worth), I've said before, they need to rewrite that darn Constitution.......most of it doesn't even pertain to the world of today......Does are government realize that? Or are they just too BUSY with appeasing "others" ......and not helping their own. US!!!! Yes, this is a wonderful country, but like you said, Congress has a lot of "changes" to make. "WE THE PEOPLE..........." Hmmmm. Great blog Joseph.........

undocumented workers pay into social security and dont receive any benefits. in fact, SSI is running a SURPLUS because there are so many who pay into the system and arent elligible to receive the benefits. about 75 - 80 per cent of undocumented workers pay federal income taxes because the SS administration allows for a supplemental documentation called an ITIN number. this allows workers to pay their taxes and avoid getting hit with tax fraud and evasion charges if they do in fact get caught by immigration. the ones without an ITIN still pay state, local and sales taxes.

ITIN numbers are allowing SS to collect tax revenue even from those who dont live here legally or receive benefits.

the idea that illegal immigrants receive or even seek out benefits on any scale really doesnt make sense. if youre here illegally, youre gonna avoid any contact with government whatsoever, right? Cops complain about rapes and murders going unreported in undocumented latino communities because people dont want to cooperate with police out of the fear of being figured out and sent home.

think about it: to get benefits you have to apply. to the government. you need to put a name and address and date of birth and all. the paltry sums that our working seniors get just arent worth the trouble of risking deportation, indefinite detention and police harassment. No latino would do that for 250 extra bucks a month when they can work and get more than that.

i agree that the federal government is in an austere spot, but dont blame people like zio felice. the police are driving around in armored vehicles and get tons of federal funds for spending on their new machine guns and tazers that they just CANT WAIT to use on an immigrant one day. the rich arent paying their fair share, as there is a 15 per cent tax on capital gains while taxes on real income for the top 1% are the lowest theyve ever been. certainly dramatically lower than when you were growing up.

you have more in common with paco on horseblock road than you do with some finance capitalist. dont fall for lies that allow them to distract others from the fact that they arent paying a fair share and are using our roads and fire departments while trying to find every loophole and tax haven in the book. these myths about immigrants collecting benefits have been proven to be so patently false that even the anti-immigrant think-tanks dont resort to those arguments anymore. they focus on anchor babies and emergency room visits nowadays.

remember our relatives were just as illegal, and a cop or a lawyer can do way more harm to guys like you and i than a roofer or a plumber could ever dream of.

also, you're right that the constitution doesn't mandate taxation explicitly. certainly not federal taxes.

but the constitution was written as a response to the failures of the articles of confederation, remember? in the middle of the 19th century, the property rights crowd -- slave owners -- again attempted to secede into a confederacy. It was also a disaster.

If everyone is going to insist on having an economic system where property is so sacrosanct, we need to realise that 50 different tyrannies are no better than one giant one.

We thought our relatives legally came through Ellis Island.

Some did and some didn't. My dad will tell you the story about how his grandpa stowed away on a boat, and broke the law to escape prosecution for murder just to end up starting our family in Brooklyn. That makes grandpa an anchor baby. Is that a bad thing? No. To me its honorable that this persons family was more important than some arbitrary Immigration law. Actually, most Italians who came during that period skirted the law to do so. Know where the term WOP comes from? It stands for "without papers" because before the Mexicans were targeted, it was the Italians who were coming here without documents. Before we have knee jerk reactions, we've got to educate ourselves and realize that there's an 8 year old Mexican version of Nana who wonders if mom or dad is coming home from work, and prays at the catholic church that they don't get picked up by LA migra, indefinitely detained, abused and deported.

Illegally Came here to escape murder? I wouldn't make light about that. I think you need to educate yourself about what's right and wrong! Really! And for the record, not all Ellis island immigrants were Italian, mine were German. I'm sure everybody has a "story" to tell.

Maybe, if you learn how to read, things would be clearer to you. You sound like an immature 13 year old, except that an immature 13 year old would take exception to your rants.

I don't think I was justifying murder, but I know you tea party types need to be spoken to slowly and clearly. I was saying a person who wouldn't even exist without his illegal immigrant family members has no right to point fingers. Also, a person who constructs sentences and has such a lack of command over grammar sounds kind of funny taking the piss out of immigrants. I guess if a 13 year old does research, educates himself and demolishes your racist opinions its not the worst thing. You teabaggers need to go home and take your blood pressure medication. I mean, you have plenty of access to the internet. You would see that even anti immigrant groups don't use the taxpayer leeching argument. But I think your hate comforts you. Quit taking verbal cues from naive, useful idiots for the koch brothers with limited understanding of constitutional history. They're an older, slower, fatter freikorps.

I'm sorry this stuff goes over your head. Check your privilege, I'm sick of arguing with white people about immigrants. Especially Italians, when statistically speaking most Italian Americans are at least partially descended from illegal immigrants. I mean, I showed why your arguments are horse shit. I showed you how even right wing academics don't resort to them. You have plenty of ability to do your own research. But you're scared of being wrong because your xenophobia comforts you. So anon, what's the deal with repeating a lie often enough that people think its true? Is that what you libertarians are up to these days? Spreading hate through racist canards with zero evidence? As a "German" you should know better, dontcha think?

Please speak in English, educate yourself, stop babbling, and WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT! you have no clue! It's babble and nonsense! I think your 30 minutes of fame are over. (and where are the big "made up" words coming from? Enough. Your words mean nothing.

Everybody stop entertaining this idiot!

Are you really so dull that you can't see the irony behind you complaining about my use of big scary words while you sit on your cobwebbed balls and complain about immigrants? If you're not keeping up, its on you. Its not my fault you neglected to read for an entire lifetime. Xenophobia is an English word, but of an admittedly higher caliber than the word "metamusil." I don't know who you are, but you should refrain from having an opinion on any immigration related matters when you write like you have a 6th grade education.

Xenophobia - deep-rooted, irrational hatred towards foreigners (Oxford English Dictionary; OED), unreasonable fear or hatred of the unfamiliar (Webster's).

Here's a picture of the geniuses who fall for the lies.

MYTH:
Undocumented immigrants don't pay taxes.

FACT:
The U.S. Social Security Administration has estimated that three quarters of undocumented immigrants pay payroll taxes, and that they annually contribute $7 billion in Social Security funds that they will be unable to claim and 1.5 billion to Medicare. They also pay income taxes, and those who own homes pay property taxes -- as do renters, in the form of pass-throughs--that support education, healthcare, and other services.

MYTH:
Immigrants get healthcare for free, and are causing costs to skyrocket.

FACT:
According to research published n the American Journal of Public Health: 30 percent of immigrants use no health care at all during a year, most immigrants have health insurance; immigrant children had healthcare expenditures that were 74 percent lower than those for U.S. born children; and immigrants account for more than 10 percent of total health spending and 8 percent of government health spending. The researchers concluded: "Our study refutes assumption that immigrants represent a disproportionate financial burden on the U.S. health care system.

MYTH:
Undocumented workers worsen the budget deficit by taking services they never pay for.

FACT:
Immigrant workers actually save the country money. When they come to America, they typically go to work immediately. So they begin contributing to the economy almost instantly, without incurring the "upfront costs"--education, health care, unemployment compensation, etc--that might otherwise be incurred through age 18.

MYTH:
Undocumented workers take money out of Social Security without paying into it.

FACT:
It is estimated that more than $519 billion in earnings has been reported to Social Security on behalf of workers who will not be able to draw retirement from the system. Those contributions add up to about 10 percent of the system's total surplus. The Center for Urban Economic Development at the University of Illinois-Chicago estimates that undocumented workers generate between $6 billion and $7 billion annually in Social Security tax revenues. So without undocumented immigrants, the system would actually be in worse shape. And because they tend to be younger, and will thus be in the workforce longer, these workers will actually be helping to finance the retirement of Baby Boomers--whose numbers are expected to strain Social Security

FACT: No Green Card, No social security number, no paying to social security. No job for someone legal with a family that needs one. Why break the law? GET THAT CARD!!!!!!
