A blonde goes to Radio Shack electronics
store and asks to buy this particular ‘TV’. The shopkeeper replies “No” so she goes home and
dyes her hair brown. She goes back the next day and tries to buy that TV again. The
shopkeeper again says “No” you are the blonde from yesterday. So the blond goes
home and dyes her hair black then heads back to the shop two weeks later and
says can “I buy that ‘TV?”. The shopkeeper says: “No you’re that blonde from two
weeks ago!” She asks how he can tell and he replies: ”Its not a TV. It’s a
microwave”.
The times they are a changing, and like everything else time
will march on.
TLW (The Little Woman) was in great despair recently by the
news that Radio Shack, that long time allie of hers was going the way of other
large companies of the past; out of business.
When we put in our first complicated entertainment system in
our den, with the introduction of a ‘box’ from the cable company, we went to
Radio Shack, and the geeks they employed gave us a detailed map of how to do it,
and it was a seamless, flawless transition from the hum-drum to the new world
of technology.
It was one Sunday morning and we purchased TIVO, you
remember TIVO? It was the rage of the day, everyone said it was great you
should get it, and so we did. We bought the thing, took it out of the box and
immediately knew; we were too dumb to figure it out. So TLW, being not so dumb
decided to go to Radio Shack for the parts we needed and the advice if there
was any. There happened to be two teenagers who were thrown out of their homes
and landed in Radio Shack, who drew up a schematic on yellow ruled paper
detailing how to put this whole mess together.
It was a special moment, we put together a complicated array
of wires and connections, filled with the knowledge that Radio Shack teenagers
would guide us through, without my swearing and cursing other than getting up
and down from a sore back, life was wonderful.
And so over the years, as we progressed through the new
technologies, the PC to TV component used to play my computer onto my television, the
cell-phone, and countless other electronic devices, it was Radio Shack who came
to our rescue, since no teenager lived with us.
I will miss you old friend, yes, you made TLW happy, and if
she was happy, it meant she wasn’t asking me for help.
