For many years I felt that the Electoral College was a great benefit to this country. My logic was that the majority would be held to some degree in check from running over minority opinion. The benefits were there for both parties to voice opinions and remain strong while out of power. It would be a vote based on the urgencies of sections of this nation that had the most needs and that it would be reflected in the final electoral vote count. The South would not be bulldozed by the will of the North, the West would not be overlooked by the states of the East, and a beautiful self-serving symmetry for American values and rights would be preserved.
Our forefathers put into place an incredible system of
checks and balances foreseeing the future with incredible and wise alacrity, we
would be preserving everyone’s opinion and we could all cheerfully agree.
But I fear I am wrong, judging from the last election and
the hijacking of our government by the minority-based broken rules that are
being flaunted because of the technicality of the Electoral College minority
victory. Instead of the lesser populated states winning the election based on
state votes and not the will of the majority of the people in this country, we
have this gang of vagrants, misfits, thieves, and liars that are destroying our
system of government. The total disregard for the Constitution of the United
States, the unlawful behavior of the Republican Senate members such as Mitch
McConnell and even the lying reactions and disingenuous voting of the House
Republicans like Lindsey Graham protecting a president who does not understand
the laws of the land, nor the will of the People, has caused me to be no longer
Independent, but a Democrat because the Republican Party has no longer any
relevance to the truth. To defend a liar that rings harm to the people for the
sake of politics has no place in my mind or our government.
